COURSE OBJECTIVES

To train students in the clinical application of basic sciences
To allow time for early practice of clinical skills
To prepare students in clinical pattern recognition
To give students experience in problem solving and group work
To give students an understanding of interprofessional health care

COMPETENCIES

Competency II: Basic Clinical Skills

It is expected that the learner attends the introductory presentations and actively participates in the practice sessions of this course. Satisfactory level 1 performance will be assessed by observation by faculty and peers. A main criteria will be the learner's willingness to practice and improve according to feedback.

Competency VI: The Social and Community Contexts of Healthcare

The learner will design a human patient simulator scenario as part of a group, and will present this scenario to faculty and peers at the end of the course. Within this scenario, the learner will represent a patient, patient family member, nurse, clinican, therapist or other health care worker. Satisfactory level 1 performance will be assessed by faculty and peers by feedback on the content of the case and the learner's ability and willingness to be a productive group member.


GRADING

The course is a Pass/Fail course. Satisfactory performance requires passing Competency II and VI.
